 | Lost generations |
 My job usually takes me to the worst ghetto neighborhoods of my town. When I am there I can't help but be amazed at how some people live and act. We execute raids on houses and within minutes there are dozens of folks standing out in the street rubbernecking. These are grown ass men and women who should be at work at 10AM on a Tuesday but seem to have nothing better to do that hang out at my crime scene.
You would think that these crowds would be happy that we are actively clearing out drug houses. Nope. Instead they like to stand around and yell out helpful comments like:

| Wildfires blacken 32,000 acres in Colorado |
 Wildfires ignited in the past few days by lightning strikes have burned nearly 32,000 acres in northwestern Colorado.
Firefighters from several agencies have documented at least 21 blazes - many of them only a few acres in size - in Moffat, Rio Blanco and Routt counties, said David Boyd, spokesman for the Northwest Colorado Fire Management Unit.
Firefighters were able to get 100 percent containment late Monday on one of the wildfires, the Prong Fire, which blackened about 4,900 acres 23 miles northwest of Craig.

| Wheat Ridge fire chief dies five months after fall |
After a nearly five-month fight to recover from injuries sustained in a fall from a ladder at his home April 4, James Payne died of pneumonia Tuesday at Collier Hospice Center at Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge. He was 53.
Mr. Payne began work with the Wheat Ridge Fire Protection District in 1989 as a volunteer. After being voted in as volunteer chief by the firefighters, he became the first paid fire chief in Wheat Ridge history in 2001. He oversaw a force of more than 100 volunteer firefighters.
"I worked for him for five years, and I couldn't have had a better boss," said Doug Saba, Wheat Ridge's acting fire chief.

| Suspicious package found on light-rail train |
Hazardous materials teams are trying to determine the contents of a suspicious package that was found on a light-rail train at the Lincoln station in Douglas County.
The train's operator of the southeast line called for hazardous materials crews after he conducted a routine walk-through of the cars and noticed a package on the stairs that "contained suspicious-looking material," Scott Reed, Regional Transportation District spokesman, said.
Passengers on the train had already exited when the operator made his sweep about 6:40 p.m., the spokesman said.

| Officials seek cause of Yuma plane crash |
Federal investigators were trying to figure out Monday what caused a small plane to crash in heavy fog just east of the Yuma Municipal Airport, killing three passengers.
The Yuma County deputy coroner said the victims were related.
They were identified as Robert C. Moran and his wife, Dorothy, both 71.

| Uncle charged in death of boy in hot tub |
The uncle of a 20-month-old boy who died after he was found in a hot tub in his father's backyard has been charged with child abuse resulting in death.
Jarrod Newsome, 28, surrendered to Adams County authorities and was released on $20,000 bail.
His nephew, Kaden Newsome, died Aug. 19, a week after he was found in the hot tub at the Adams County home of the boy's father.

| Dirt biker rescued after breaking leg |
A 38-year-old dirt biker was rescued by helicopter Sunday after breaking his leg on the Hermosa Creek Trail.
Travis Bryson, of Bloomfield, N.M., suffered a compound fracture when he rode off a 40-foot, rocky embankment, said Butch Knowlton, director of La Plata County's Office of Emergency Preparedness. The accident occurred about eight miles from the trailhead on County Road 201.
Fourteen search and rescue personnel were dispatched to aid Bryson, and 12 people on motor bikes volunteered to help ferry equipment, Knowlton said.

| Hudson man killed in crash on I-70 |
A 34-year-old man died Monday after a construction truck pulled out in front of him on Interstate 70 near East Vail.
The man, from Hudson, was driving westbound at 4:27 a.m. when his van collided with a fuel truck that was using an emergency turnaround one mile west of the East Vail exit.
The man's name was being withheld until his family is notified.

| Winds fuel wildfires near West Slope gas wells |
An 8,000 acre wildfire was burning on Bureau of Land Management land where there are 30 gas wells.
The Mayberry fire, about 32 miles northwest of Craig in northwestern Colorado, is one of at least 24 new fires reported since Sunday.
The BLM says erratic winds are creating dangerous conditions in sagebrush and tall grass. Crews working with the gas wells in the area have voluntarily left the scene. Firefighters know of no damage to the wells.

| CopCAST Episode 85 - Excessive Sound Effects |
 In the words of Mick Jagger, "Too much is never enough." OK, so we went a little overboard with the sound effects but therein lies the danger of giving little boys fancy toys. However our legion of listeners really came through for us by sending in some great local stories and our CopCAST correspondents searched the web to find some great news reports.
CNN never covers the really interesting stories like the robber who locked his keys in his get away car so we do. Most of us like to go on a department sponsored road trip every now and then. However, one Kentucky sheriff may have carried it a little far on a recent extradition. I apologize in advance but you know we were going to have to talk about the recent Big Foot finding. Like they say,"There is a sucker born every minute." We also tell you about a new program that provides e-mail for inmate. It actually is not as bad as it sounds. These are just a few of the stories we discuss this week.
